About CookTimeGuide

Our Mission

CookTimeGuide exists to give you the fastest, most accurate cooking time answer on the internet. No 2,000-word blog posts. No life stories before the recipe. Just the time, temperature, and tips you need to cook your food safely and perfectly.

Our Editorial Team

CookTimeGuide is maintained by a small editorial team with backgrounds in food science, culinary arts, and technical writing. Every guide is reviewed by at least two team members before publication: one for culinary accuracy (cooking times, techniques, and tips) and one for food safety compliance (USDA temperature data, storage guidelines, and pathogen information).

We chose not to list individual author profiles because our content is a team effort. Every page reflects the combined work of kitchen testing, data verification, and editorial review rather than a single author's opinion. If you have questions about our team or process, contact us.

Our Testing Methodology

Every cooking time on CookTimeGuide is tested in our kitchen using standard consumer-grade equipment, not professional restaurant gear. We test with conventional ovens, popular air fryer models, standard gas and charcoal grills, and widely available Instant Pot and slow cooker units. This ensures the times we publish reflect what you will experience at home.

Step 1: USDA Baseline

We start with USDA FSIS safe minimum temperature guidelines as the non-negotiable foundation. Every food with a USDA safe temperature recommendation displays it prominently with the source citation.

Step 2: Kitchen Testing

Each food is cooked using every listed method and temperature combination. We record time-to-temperature curves using calibrated instant-read thermometers and note the time range needed to reach the target internal temperature across multiple trials.

Step 3: Cross-Reference

Results are cross-referenced against food science literature, USDA cooking charts, and equipment manufacturer guidelines. We publish the range (e.g., "18-25 minutes") rather than a single number because real-world variables like starting temperature, altitude, and equipment calibration produce a range.

Step 4: Ongoing Review

Our food safety editor reviews all data quarterly against the latest USDA publications. Each page shows when it was last verified. If USDA guidelines change, we update affected pages within 48 hours.

What We Cover

We provide cooking guidance for 300+ foods across 11 cooking methods, including oven, air fryer, grill, stovetop, Instant Pot, slow cooker, deep fryer, and more. Beyond cooking, we also cover soaking times, reheating guides, marinating durations, brining schedules, thawing methods, and resting times.

Our Data Sources

All safe cooking temperatures are sourced from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)guidelines. Cooking times are compiled from USDA recommendations, food science literature, and verified against standard kitchen equipment specifications.

We regularly verify our data against the latest USDA publications. Each page shows its last verification date.

Food Safety Disclaimer

Always use an instant-read meat thermometer to verify internal temperatures. Cooking times provided on this site are estimates and may vary based on equipment calibration, altitude, starting temperature, and food thickness. When in doubt, trust your thermometer over the timer.

Kitchen-First Design

CookTimeGuide is designed for real kitchen use. Our Day and Night themes adapt to your environment, and the built-in timer with screen wake lock keeps your phone awake while you cook. Large text and clear layout make it easy to read at a glance, even with messy hands.
